Quarantine-20 is the New Freshman-15
You may have heard about the Freshman 15; you know when you are a freshman you put on 15lbs due to all the heavy drinking and partying. I have what I am referring to as the Quarantine 20; you know when you stayed home for 30 days to “Lower the Curve” but ended up adding a few to yourself instead. Yup that was me. I participated in that. It consisted of too many trips to the pantry and far too many trips to the beer fridge. Yes, I gained 20lbs. No, it did not take only 30 days, but it sure did feel like it.
With things getting slowly back to ordinary I am heavily trying to get myself back to ordinary (or better) as quickly as possible. I have a simple plan and if I take it slow, I believe it should work.
Here is my plan:
Workout
Morning: Every other day I will do light strength training including
- Dumbbell Curls
- Dumbbell Tricep extensions
- Crunches (a lot of crunches)
- Mountain Climbers
- Planking
- Etc.
Afternoon: Ride bike to work after lunch 1.8 mile

Evening:
- Ride bike home from work 1.8 mile
- Swim laps for 20-30 minutes

Meals
What I have found for myself is that in the past when I track what I eat I tend to stay on track better. I will use the site/app myfitnesspal.com/profile/swilmer01 I have used this before and it has a large database of foods and a nice feature that lets you scan the UPC from packaging to instantly get the dietary information. I will try to stick to a 1200 calorie diet the best I can, which should be easy since I only drink coffee for breakfast and have homemade salads for lunch. I don’t eat out so I will be able to control the ingredients in my meals at least. I know many people use a cheat day and I haven’t decided if I want to do that.
Wish me luck and hopefully, I will start dropping some of this excess weight!
